Hele-On Shared Ride Taxi COVID-19 Restrictions

Mass Transit Agency will continue to provide vital transportation services and is working diligently to keep passengers and operators safe. Everyone, including operators and front-line staff, benefit from limited exposure to others. To that end, we ask Shared Ride Taxi users, especially seniors and those at higher risk, to limit their travel to essential trips. Please do your part to limit the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Effective 2/01/2021, 11:59 p.m., a NEW FEDERAL MASK REQUIREMENT is in place for all Surface Transportation. Riders 2 years old and over must wear a mask (covering nose & mouth) when boarding, disembarking, and for the entire duration of travel.  Children under the age of 2, individuals with a disability or medical conditions as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act, and persons for whom wearing a mask would create a risk to workplace health, safety, or job duty as determined by the relevant workplace safety guidelines or federal regulations are exempted.

While Mass Transit Agency services are part of a shared-ride system, the agency is providing individual trips with the exception of a personal care attendant (PCA). Please be advised that ride times may be affected.

Before traveling, please verify that the location you are traveling to is still open. Passengers are encouraged to sign up for Hawaii County Alerts and Notifications via text or email at

The safety and well-being of our passengers and operators is Mass Transit Agency's top priority. To limit the risk of exposure to COVID-19, drivers cannot physically assist passengers except to secure mobility devices (upon request). Passengers who need physical assistance while traveling are encouraged to bring a PCA with them. PCAs can ride for free.

Due to COVID-19, we understand that using the Shared Ride Taxi Coupons by the expiration date can be difficult.  Therefore, we recommend participants consider the situation the pandemic has brought forward and purchase the amount of coupons needed for essential travel.  Planning and purchasing smaller books of coupons will help reduce expired coupons and additional costs to the consumer.

Expired coupons may be exchanged for a replacement fee of $15.00.  Coupons must be in books of 5, 10, or 15.

Please note that Mass Transit Agency will not provide any further extensions on expiration dates.
