Hele-On Shared Ride Taxi Program

The County of Hawai'i Mass Transit Agency provides the Hele-On Shared Ride Taxi Program in the Hilo urbanized area up to a nine mile radius from your point of origin within Hilo.

The  Mass Transit Agency has implemented a new process to better serve individuals with a disability who uses or wishes to use the Shared Ride Program. If you are an individual with a disability who requires the use of an ADA accessible vehicle, you must complete a Disability Identification Card (DIC) application.

Currently, ADA Accessible vehicles are available through Ace One, Daniel's, Marhysa's and Kwiki Taxi for  shared ride and regular fares.

*** COVID 19 INFORMATION FOR THE SHARED RIDE TAXI PROGRAM***

Mass Transit will continue to provide vital transportation services and is working diligently to keep passengers and operators safe. Everyone, including operators and front-line staff, benefit from limited exposure to others. To that end, we ask Shared Ride Taxi users, especially seniors and those at higher risk, to limit their travel to essential trips. Please do your part to limit the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).  Riders 5 years old and over must wear face coverings (covering nose & mouth) the entire time on board the vehicle.  Children under the age of  5 and individuals with a disability or medical conditions where wearing a face covering may pose a health risk are exempted.

While Mass Transit services are part of a shared-ride system, the agency is providing individual trips with the exception of a PCA. Please be advised that ride times may be affected.

In addition, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many public places such as restaurants, retail stores and shopping malls have temporarily closed. Before traveling, please verify that the location you are traveling to is still open. Passengers are encouraged to sign up for Hawaii County Alerts and Notifications via text or email at https://member.everbridge.net/index/371914103062563#/signup

The safety and well-being of our passengers and operators is Mass Transit’s top priority. To limit the risk of exposure to COVID-19, operators (drivers) cannot physically assist passengers except to secure mobility devices (upon request). Passengers who need physical assistance while traveling are encouraged to bring a personal care attendant (PCA) with them. PCAs ride for free.
